BLOG 6: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

When you are talking about study programs, it is very important to be able to take into account not only what one has to study

and the knowledge that can be acquired, but also to be critical about the real relationship with the reality and work context

that they are going to have later, since detecting certain shortcomings in the academic area can help to look for alternative

knowledge elsewhere.

In my case, I am studying Visual Arts, I am in my third year of the 5 that the degree lasts, and for example this semeste

r I am taking photography as a specialty workshop, I am continuing with drawing and I chose a programming workshop,

among others. The problem that I can observe in my study program is that there is no specialization or courses on video-art,

which is a subject that I want to develop in depth and for that reason I chose to find out on my part, although photography is

close to the area, but It is not the same, since it requires a lot of practical work and experimentation. The methods that my

teachers use are quite good since it is always considering the tastes of the students and with revision every week, but it

is a lot of theoretical work since we are in online classes (we have a session of 2 hours a week for each course of this

semester) and there is not so much instance which they can help me in the creation process.

The place in which I am studying (Las Encinas) is a space that has a lot of equipment and tools for the different specialties,

for my workshop there is a studio for photography sessions, but there are no tools to learn about video or recording in

general. Among the equipment they have there are flashs, backdrops, connecting cables, among others. And in the analog

photography room there is a dark room, enlargers, a room to develop, red light, I think it is a fairly complete place for this

 theme.

BLOG 5: RECYCLE

I think that talking about recycling is very important at a personal and political level.

Especially for me it is a topic that can bring me back to my roots and family traditions,

because from a latinamerican perspective we observe the natural and cyclical process of

the earth and we are more aware of the ecological point of view that we have in our daily

life. Being able to learn about orchards and composting is also a way of thinking about

recycling because it can reduce the impact of mass production, it privileges the local and

handmade production as well as democratizing the knowledge about how to work, take

care and appreciate the natural products that we consume or the places that we live in

to avoid destroying and contaminating our surroundings.

I have had my own orchard and composting system with worms for more than 4 years,

in this way I have being able to produce my own food, learn about the process of

different plants and feeling closer to the indigenous perspective that in some way still

persists in my family. I think this has been replicated in different districts and comunitary

zones, but nevertheless there is still a lot to improve within education especially in public

 schools.

From a political point of view, I think that there has been a lot of propaganda and

hypocritical appropriation of the concept of recycling by companies and the government.

There are many brands that seek a more ecological aesthetic but they actually continue

to have a negative impact on the environment with contaminating practices. For this

reason, I think that the government must regulate much more the practices of these

companies and create a better municipal recycling system, that are quite basic and

 effective.

BLOG 4: MY FUTURE JOB

It's hard to me to think of a specific future job, because being in the arts area is a great uncertainty, at least here in Chile. However, I can imagine myself specializing in Mediation and Cultural Management and getting involved in education at the same time (in the university), since being able to share with students, projects, initiaitves and organizations, for me is very important for all political and social interaction that its means, further I really enjoy it a lot. One of the first contacts that I've had has being museum volunteer and then have served in their area of education and mediation, I think it was a very nice first approach, although I would also like to try being in more emerging sectors.

For the nature of this area, I imagine myself working outdoors in the case of Management, because there is a lot of interaction with the environment, which I am very grateful for, because the monotony  makes me desperate.I also fell that it is very well compatible with travel because there are always cultural activities in which one can develop or study outside the capital and the country, I think it's a liberation and unique opportunity.

As the financing of the arts in general is complex in Chile, I imagine having to juggle to be able to sustain myself, but I believe that if I have a job that I like and motivates me, I could be fine with it.

I think it's very expensive and not very diverse to study a master's degree in Chile on Cultural management, so I am thinking of being able to win a scholarship to specialize, the mediterrean and Ibero-american countries call my attention, whether Italy, Spain, or Ecuador for example.

BLOG 3: MOVIES AND SERIES

Today I'll talk about a film that is now (finally) on Netflix, and is "The tale of princess Kaguya". I think that is the best of Ghibli's films (the japanese animation studio that created it). Was released in 2015, directed and written by Isao Takahata, who was one of the founders of Studio Ghibli together to Hayao Miyazaki and Tobio Suzuki.

The story is based on the japanese folktale "The tale of bamboo cutter", which is about a baby that was found inside a bamboo stalk by and old couple, who interpret that the girl is a deity who must be protected and treated like a princess. There aren't many characters in the story and they don't focus too much on their names either, perhaps only when they name the princess as Princess Kaguya and the supporting characters.

This film really touched me a lot, by its sensivility and philosophy in telling the story and for the animation quality that they used, with really surreal parts. The entire film was handmade drawn and then digitally colored, which is a very ususual practice in our times, for all these reasons it is an experience and pleasure to be able to enjoy this film, specially for the people who are interested in the visual and audiovisual world.

Blog 2: Best holidays ever

The best vacation that I had was when I went camping with my mom, my brother and my best friend at National Park Conguillio in february of 2018.

The first thing that happened to us was the turbulent arrival; we were at the entrance, but to go to the camping area we needed to cross the most difficult and irregular dirt path that I have seen in my life. I need to recognize that I was really afraid and thought that in any moment the car could tip over.

Anyway, once we set up in the park, with a tent and all of that, we went to many special areas. For example, we went to visit the "araucaria madre" which is the oldest tree of the park (it has 1800 years old), we trekked around the Arcoiris Lake, the trails, the Llaima volcano and the Conguillio Lake, among other things.

I think that this holidays was one of the most incredible and amazing experiences that I ever had. As I truly felt shocked by the feeling of inmensity around me, which are spaces not intervened by humans. Apart from being able to see native species  in their maximum splendour, also there were many other natural attractions in the same area.

BLOG 1: A COUNTRY I'D LIKE TO VISIT

I think that a place that has captured my attention and I'd like to visit is Italy, especially Florence. It goes without saying how important the italian culture is; they're known for the legacy of Roman empire, the Renaissance's artists, obviously the film "The godfather", etc. But one of the reasons that marked my fascination for this land was to know about the Cathedral of Florence or also known as "Duomo di Firenze", that until know is more an obsession than a fasciation.

The Duomo has been much studied for the construction of its dome, because it's supported by its own weight without external structures that keep it standing. For those reasons it would be clear that the first thing I'd be there it's contemplate for so many hours the Duomo.

But I need to recognize that being there is very expensive, so if I go there would be just for a few days as turist or with a scholarship to study.
